New Zealand is a country of five million people with one genuinely large city, which makes professional dating here a numbers problem before it is anything else. In Auckland the pool is workable. In Wellington, Christchurch and the smaller centres, most professionals reach a point where they have met, or know of, everyone in their field who is single — which is exactly when a national site starts to earn its place.
