Professional dating in Australia

Australia is a small number of very large cities separated by a great deal of country, and that shapes professional dating here more than anything else. Within Sydney or Melbourne you have the density to be genuinely picky. Outside them, the honest advice is to widen your search to the state and treat a flight the way a British member treats a train.
The other local factor is how much of professional life runs through a handful of employers — the big four, the teaching hospitals, the mining and engineering firms, the universities. In a city where everyone in your field drinks in the same three bars, a dating site that is not full of your colleagues has obvious appeal. Our Australian membership is smaller than our UK or US one, and it is close to evenly split between men and women. If your search comes back thin, widen the age band before you widen the distance — it tends to work better in this market.
