The advice that works in one market is wrong in another, so it is worth knowing which one you are in.
Dense markets
The UK, the north-eastern United States, and the centres of Sydney, Melbourne, Cape Town and Toronto.
Search by area rather than radius. A train line or a shared commute beats a straight-line distance.
Spread-out markets
Texas, the American west, most of Australia, most of Canada, and the whole of New Zealand.
Search the state or region, widen the age band before the distance, and plan around weekends.
Thin markets
New Zealand today, and Canada outside the Toronto corridor.
